We had a great 4o year reunion which actually covered three days of fun! First, the school tour took place on Friday, August 8th, 2008. We broke into groups and were guided through the school by current students. We were thrilled to be back at the old school and couldn’t stop talking and laughing. It was a sensory over load! After the tour we were able to sip on sodas and eat sweets from Wolf’s Bakery in the cafeteria.
The next night was the dinner dance held at the American Legion Hall, Evergreen Park, IL. We were able to chat with each other and catch up on the 10 years since we had seen each other. The highlights of the evening were that Mrs. Budding and Ms. Zussman and Mr. Dartsch were there! How gracious of them to attend! The food was good, the dancing was divine, and once again, everyone couldn’t stop talking and laughing!
The last day of the event was a Sunday brunch which was held at the Doubletree Hotel, Alsip. We closed out the three days by chatting and having one last chance to say “See you next time!”. We all decided that 10 years is far too long to go before the next reunion, and so we will have another in 5 years! The reunion committee hopes to see everyone there, so please take good care of yourself and make sure you leave room on your calendar for this fun, and memorable event!

1. You’ll laugh, cry and reminisce with some of your oldest friends.
2. You won’t have to lie about your age.
3. You’ll feel better realizing you are not the only one who has been married, divorced, married, divorced and/or is still looking.
4. You might begin new relationships.
5. You’ll definitely rekindle old relationships.
6. It’s an opportunity to expand your networking options.
7. Hey! Enjoy an evening out without the kids….er, grandkids!
8. It’s a chance to diet and shape up.
9. Humor the committee…we are a deluded bunch of die-hards that think everyone should show up to appreciate all our efforts.
10. And, finally, studies have shown that those who were initially hesitant about attending their class reunions discover it was an event they wouldn’t have missed!

Sent to me by Mary Schiller DeWitt:

VILLAGE OF EVERGREEN PARK, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS - Over one hundred years ago, while other towns surrounding Chicago were requesting annexation to survive, Evergreen Park boldly decided to declare its independence. The population at the time was approximately 500 people. Fifty-one residents turned out on December 20, 1893 when forty of them voted for incorporation and four squared miles of area became the Village of Evergreen Park. Many of the original settlers were hard working farm families.

The Village acquired its name from the park located at 97th Street and Homan Avenue, originally intended to be the center of town. This part of the village was laid out to resemble Paris, with its wagon wheel appearance, but development in other directions has since caused it to be a residential section. The center of Evergreen Park is now 95th Street and Kedzie Avenue. From those few early settlers in the 1800’s through the pre-war years of truck gardens, the post–war years and population boom of the 1950’s, to its present stature as one of the leading southwest suburbs of Cook County, Evergreen Park continues to progress and flourish.

The 75th Anniversary was celebrated in 1968, and the 100th Anniversary was celebrated in 1993. Time capsules were buried at each of these ceremonies and will be opened in the year 2018. Evergreen Park is a residential suburb located astride 95th Street (U.S. Route 12 and U.S. Route 20) adjacent to the attractive Beverly Hills section of Chicago and seventeen miles southwest of the Loop. The Village encompasses an area of approximately four square miles and is bordered by the City of Chicago on the north, south and east, and by the Village of Oak Lawn on the west.
